Chocolate Babka – My first ever Youtube video inspired by this Chocolate Gem.
Babka is a bread similar to Brioche, sweet, rich and light with a buttery flavor. Although I’ve eaten Babka quite a few times before, this was my first time making it. I was a bit intimidated at first starting this recipe but I was up for the challenge. Just like baking any other kind of bread you must be patience here.
First things firsts, start with your dough (you’ll want to get this puppy done). Once that’s ready, let the dough rest (30 mins) – Listen to music, drink some water (lol) and start working on that chocolate filling. You don’t have to be fancy melting your chocolate over a double boiler, just place it in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir (keep an eye on it).
Okay, once you’ve got your filling ready set that aside. Split the dough into 2 small rounds letting it rest for 2 hours (…again while enjoying your music). Roll each individual ball into a long tube and add the chocolate filling. Split each tube, exposing the inside (this will get messy!). Start to braid each tube into a circular knot shape. After forming the shape you must let the babka rest for 30 mins covered. Before baking brush the Babka with egg-wash and bake at 375°f for 35-40 mins until golden brown.
Let it cool and enjoy!
